For 10 years AIWA has been working to keep the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) open and safe for navigation for recreational and commercial users.
Our goals and accomplishments include:
Establishing a Waterway Commission that would provide oversight for the management of the waterway to provide sufficient maintenance and operation funding, promote safe navigation conditions, and propose Short Sea Shipping opportunities.
Working with Congress and the Administration to identify and implement a permanent dedicated funding source for the maintenance of the Waterway.
Advocating for the inclusion of all Waterway uses, including recreational traffic and ancillary waterborne commerce in the US Army Corps of Engineers cost-benefit analysis.
Encouraging economic benefit studies by state legislative bodies, academic institutions and independent consultancies.
